How to make your computer faster and more efficient

There are times when you are in a hurry to get things done but your personal computer will totally disagree with you. This disagreement is in the form of its sluggishness and slow responds to your commands. Simply put the computer is very slow. Due to one reason or the other you don’t feel like getting a new personal computer. If you find your computer too slow and inefficient for your day to day activities, Try the following simple tricks to make your slow computer faster and improve its overall performance.

Bring up the task manager
This is the first thing you should do, the task manager shows every single thing that is happening on your personal computer, you can get to the start manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, or by simply right clicking on the windows logo then selecting task manager. what you want to check here is the performance tab, so click on it, this will show you which program is consuming the most system resources and might just be the culprit slowing down your computer. You can choose to end the process or remove the program completely, it’s totally up to you.

Disable start-up programs you no longer need
Some programs and application are designed to start working immediately you turn on your computer system and they keep working in the background even after being closed. This consumes precious ram space that your computer might need to speed up its activities and stop being slow. For latest windows operating systems like windows 8 and 10, just switch to the startup bar on the task manager, select and disable any start up program you no longer require (make sure you don’t disable windows services). Older operating systems from windows XP –windows 7, you have to select the “RUN” application from the start menu and type “MSCONFIG” and then click on the startup bar.

Always leave at least 20-30% free storage space on your hard drive
Dumping all kinds of files and data on your computer isn’t a very good idea, especially if the bar that indicates the remaining space on your hard drive changes from the usual blue to red. This is a very bad sign, if you are not luck you will not only end up with a slow pc but a crashed hard drive as well. You can check this article on how to free storage space on your personal computer. Get rid of outdated old programs that are no longer useful. Are you the kind of person who likes to try out almost every new and cool program or software they come across, then get bored and forget about them after a few days. Well look for such programs and uninstall them directly from their folders or go through your control panel to uninstall.

Defragment the hard drive
Defragmentation helps sorts out files on a computer system so they can be accessed faster which in turn makes your pc faster. This program comes pre-installed on every windows operating system, just go to the start menu, key in the following letters “defrag” press enter. Once inside the application, click on analyze, in case of fragmented hard disk after the analyze the computer will automatically run defragmentation on the hard disk. In situation where it hasn’t just click on optimize.
Note: you should also enable scheduled optimization

The temporary files
These files are automatically created by the computer to make it easier and faster for you to access certain information. They might have originated from your browser or from certain applications etc. The main point here is that the computer is supposed to eliminate them after you exit such programs since you know the files are supposed to be temporary. But it usually ignores them, which ends creating more of them every day as you used the said application. Just go to the windows folder on drive c: to empty the temp folder, delete them permanently from your system, they are useless. Don’t worry the necessary ones will be created automatically by the computer.

Get a new RAM (random access memory)
Buy a new ram stick, they are very cheap and easy to slot in either on desktop or laptop, increasing the ram size of your pc significantly boost up its performance.
